Chiangmai Border Run

        Chiang Mai Border Run has registered commercial registration under Commercial Registration Office of Thailand. Our services is a collection group of foreigners in Chiang Mai who want to extend a visa by land border and connect with transportation (van or car) partners in Chiang Mai for pick-up and drop-off them from Chiang Mai and the border.  We are a convenient and safest border run service for booking from Chiang Mai to Chiang Khong - Huay Xai (Laos) Border by van (or car). PURPOSE

To extend the visa for 60 days whose current visa is almost expiring (type of visa i.e., 30-day or 45-day visa exemption, 60-Day Tourist Visa, Non-O, Non-B etc.). See Visa Exemption Countries (Effective on 15 July 2024)

Warning:  At the Chiang Khong Border, everyone can do a border run only 2 times a calendar year.


 Option 1: Same-Day Return  (4,300 THB/Person) 

  • Departure from Chiang Mai, we make appointments at the following locations: McDonald (Thapae gate), Pantip plaza,  Shangri-La Hotel, SIAM TV (Chang Lor Rd),  Wat Phra Singh Temple, Starbucks (Chiangmai Ram Complex), Maya shopping mall (Starbucks Exit), Central Festival (bus stop) and pick up between 7:00am to 7.30am from your selected location.  
  • 6 - 8 passengers will join the border run trip.
  • Arrive at the destination ((Chiang Khong/ Huay Xai (Laos)) border checkpoint around 12.00 pm.
  • Driver will wait you until complete your border run (Normally use 1 to 2 hours for a processing).
  • Passengers exit Thailand, cross the bridge by a bus (wait around 30 minute) and arrive at Laos border checkpoint. 
  • Passengers get a visa on arrival at Laos immigration office (give passport and pay money here) and re-enter to Thailand immediately.
  • Passengers exit Laos, cross the bridge by a bus (wait around 30 minute) and arrive at the Thai border checkpoint. 
  • Passengers meet with the driver at the appointed place and time (around 13.:30 pm), sit in  a van (or car), and return to Chiang Mai.  
  • Passengers will arrive in Chiang Mai around 6:30 pm and the driver dropped off at the same location where you were picked up in the morning.

Option 2:  3 Days 2 Nights Stay  (2,900 THB/Person) 

  • Departure from Chiang Mai, we make appointments at the following locations: McDonald (Thapae gate), Pantip plaza,  Shangri-La Hotel, SIAM TV (Chang Lor Rd),  Wat Phra Singh Temple, Starbucks (Chiangmai Ram Complex), Maya shopping mall (Starbucks Exit), Central Festival (bus stop) and pick up between 9:00 am to 10.00 am from your selected location.  
  • Have lunch and visit the White temple around 12.30 pm. 
  • Arrive at the destination ((Chiang Khong/ Huay Xai (Laos)) border checkpoint around 16.00 pm. 
  • Driver will pick up passengers again the next 2 days at the Chiang Khong border around 16:00 pm.  For example if you do a border run at the Chiang Khong border in Monday, then a van will pick you up again on Wednesday
  • Passengers exit Thailand, cross the bridge by a bus (wait around 30 minute) and arrive at Laos border checkpoint.
  • Passengers get a visa on arrival at Laos immigration office (give passport and pay money here).
  • Passengers exit Laos, use Taxi to a hotel (private room) at Huay Xai city (Laos) (stay here 2 nights).
  • After 2 nights, passengers use Taxi from the hotel to Huay Xai Border.
  • Passengers exit Laos, cross the bridge by a bus (wait around 30 minute) and arrive at the Thai border checkpoint.
  • Passengers meet with the driver at the appointed place and time (16.00 pm), sit in a van, and return to Chiang Mai. 
  • Passengers will arrive in Chiang Mai around 22:00 pm and the driver dropped off at the same location where you were picked up in the morning (2 days ago). 
REQUIRED DOCUMENTS TO RE-ENTER THAILAND (For Option 2)
  • Outbound flight to country of origin by paying the ticket already.  
  • Proof of funds 10,000 THB by showing a cash.
  • TM.30 (proof of  address in Thailand).


REQUIRED DOCUMENTS TO ENTER LAOS

  • Passport (at least valid for 6 months and two completely blank pages) 
  • 2000 THB pay for the Laos for Visa on arrival at Laos immigration office. However, some countries are free for Visa on Arrival (VOA.)  such as Brunei, Cambodia, Indonesia, Japan, Luxembourg, Malaysia, Mongolia, Philippines, Russia, Singapore, South Korea, Switzerland, Thailand, Vietnam. But pay 200 - 500 THB for Tourist Tax.  
  • Starting 1 July 2024, The new policy, announced by the Lao Ministry of Public Security, passport holders from Austria, Spain, Belgium, Denmark, Sweden, Norway, Finland and Greece do not need to apply for a Visa on Arrival in Laos, allowing them to stay up to 15 days visa-free (started at Huay Xai border now).
  • Travelers with passports from the following countries are Not eligible for a Laos visa on arrival: Afghanistan, Algeria, Bangladesh, Burundi, Cameroon, Congo, Cote d'Ivoire, Ghana, Guinea, Guinea Bissau, Jordan, Lesotho, Liberia, Libya (Libyan Arab Jamahiriya), Mozambique, Nauru, Niger, Nigeria, Pakistan, Senegal, Sierra Leone, Suriname, Syria (Syrian Arab republic), Swaziland, Tonga, Zambia, and ZimbabweIn a significant development as of August 2024, Laos now allows visa-free travel to citizens from 169 countries. However, please wait some period of time until this new policy starts to work at Huay Xai border. 



ADDITIONAL INFORMATION

  • A group trip price 4,300 THB a person (same day return) included vehicle, fuel and driver (1800 baht) and same-day return approval (2500 baht). This price does NOT include Visa On Arrival (or Tourist Tax) at the Laos border, food and drinking.
  • A group trip price 2,900 THB a person (3 days 2 nights stay) included vehicle, fuel, driver, travel insurance and hotel (private room). This price does NOT include Visa On Arrival (or Tourist Fees) at the Laos border, food and drinking.
  • A private trip price 4,500 THB (same day return) hire a whole car and this price included vehicle, fuel and driver only. However, this price does NOT include the Same day return approval (2500 baht) and Visa On Arrival fee (or Tourist Fees) at the Laos border. *Visa on arrival fee at Laos border depending on your nationality. Pick up point in Chiang Mai city Only and if you want to pick up from outside the city such as Hang Dong, Sarapee, Sankampheang or Mae Rim districts you need to pay 300 to 500 THB+ extra depending on the distance.
  • Our cost can be paid by scanning QR Code and sending your slip on our website OR pay to our staff by cash before departure from Chiang Mai.
  • Bus tickets (25 THB + 25 THB) for crossing the bridge. 
  • If your visa / stamp has expired, you will need to pay 500 baht a day for overstay. 
  • Cancel an education visa and Non-B visa, a work permit at an immigration office before going to the border run.
  • If you want to select specific seats, pay an extra 100 THB (we reserve the right for Same-day Return's option only). 
  • We guarantee for a same day return if your passport get an approval from the immigration office at the border before do a border run trip. 
  • For the package 3 Days 2 Nights Stay, you must prepare all documents (air ticket, cash 10,000 THB, TM.30) well by yourself then you will pass and get visa extension stamp from Thai immigration surely.
  • For some complicate case such as you did a border run more than 2 times in this year or over stay, we can advise you for the best way to extend your visa in Thailand.
